This chawan was hand-formed in Bizen during my stay in the region, then fired in Taiga Mori's noborigama kiln for 7 days.
Its shape is inspired by the kirinuki approach, a technique that involves directly shaping and sculpting the clay mass rather than seeking a perfectly regular form. The irregular surfaces and textures here evoke rock textures and forms found in nature.
The firing then reveals the unique qualities of the clay, bringing out variations in hue, texture, and surface. This piece is part of the Tadaima creations made in Bizen, as an extension of my experience with Japanese ceramics.

Expertise
Atelier Tadaima
Tadaima is a project dedicated to Japanese handcrafted ceramics and everyday objects.
Born from several trips to Japan, the project stems from a curiosity for ceramics, and more specifically for the chawan, whose presence in daily Japanese life gradually led me towards tea, matcha, and the world surrounding them.
