This chawan was handcrafted in Bizen during my stay in the region, then fired for 7 days in Taiga Mori's noborigama kiln.
For the firing, the piece was placed horizontally and held in place with shells used as spacers, themselves filled with a mixture to keep the piece stable. Traces of these shells are still visible on the surface: their imprints and the reddish variations surrounding them bear witness to the different atmospheres to which the piece was exposed in the kiln.
On the other side, the ashes have adorned the surface with yellow and brown hues, with a particularly visible drip running down the side. These transformations, entirely linked to the position of the piece and the firing conditions, make its appearance impossible to reproduce exactly.
This is one of my favorite chawan from this firing, for the way the fire, ashes, and traces of the manufacturing process remain fully visible on the piece.

Expertise
Atelier Tadaima
Tadaima is a project dedicated to Japanese handcrafted ceramics and everyday objects.
Born from several trips to Japan, the project stems from a curiosity for ceramics, and more specifically for the chawan, whose presence in daily Japanese life gradually led me towards tea, matcha, and the world surrounding them.
