This chawan was thrown on the wheel in Bizen during my stay in the region, then fired in Taiga Mori's noborigama kiln for 7 days.

Its form is inspired by the kirinuki approach, a technique that involves shaping and sculpting the clay mass directly rather than pursuing a perfectly regular shape. The irregular surfaces and reliefs here evoke the textures of rock and the forms that can be observed in nature.

The wood firing then reveals the characteristics of the clay, bringing out variations in hue, texture, and surface. This piece is part of the Tadaima creations made in Bizen, as a continuation of my experience with Japanese ceramics.

  • Origin: Bizen, Okayama - Japan

  • Allow to dry completely before storing the piece.
  • Dishwasher and microwave use should be avoided.

Expertise

Atelier Tadaima

Tadaima is a project dedicated to Japanese handcrafted ceramics and everyday objects.

Born from several trips to Japan, the project stems from a curiosity for ceramics, and more specifically for the chawan, whose presence in daily Japanese life gradually led me towards tea, matcha, and the world surrounding them.
